They're built solid as hell, and if you ever have to deal with him, Chris DiPinto is really great to deal with. I'm not a neck pick up kinda guy, but the neck pick up sound on most of these that I've owned is among my favorites. The newer ones have a coil tap feature that shuts off one of the single coils from the bridge 'dual single'. I've owned two with and two without the trem, and they're great all around guitars. Shop around, and you can find one with a Jaguar style trem for about 5 hundred. That being said, I'm putting a vote in for one that hasn't been mentioned - the DiPinto Mach IV. These lower budget guitars don't really have much in common with a Mosrite other than the general body shape. The Eastwood is a viable instrument in my opinion. Certainly not cheap knockouts and certainly up to gigging standard.Įastwoods are not very common in the UK, Hallmarks are unobtainable and original Mosrite's super rare. If you can get one at a good price, and get it properly set up, I think they are half-decent guitars. At the moment the action is higher than I like despite getting it as low as I can it frets out in a few places on the top E. It needs a decent setup - I'm planning on getting this done while I'm at SurferJoe's in June. If it needed a refret I would replace them with something thinner and lower. Not as cricket-bat as a Gibson SG, in fact it's pretty slim, but the frets are pretty tall and chunky and took some getting used to after the super fast slinky Rickenbacker I've played for 20 years. Dick Dale signed the truss rod cover, so it's probably one of a kind! Had quite a few appreciative comments about it when I've played live with it. Stays in tune well, and has been pretty reliable. Mine has the earlier Burns tremolo unit which I really like. It's a nice, solid guitar, edge-bound, well finished and sounds OK. I bought it on eBay after a night in the pub for £150GBP (about $200USD).
